It uses mass effect fields to help fly; however Gunship drops troop off alot in the game; and in Zaeed's loyalty cutscene the villain was shown sitting 3 in a row; the internal size isnt' consistent with exterior

Very true. The interior is actually a reuse of other models, like the escape pod at the start on ME2. It would look better if the gunship was a little larger, but since there's only one or possibly two scenes where you see the interior (the scene you're talking about and Donovon Hock), it wasn't really worth devoting time to making a proper interior.

dat does not seem aeronautically possible.

You are probably correct. It doesn't exactly fit the bill.

Having said that, the F-117 Nighthawk was not capable of staying airborne on its own, without on-board computers and software monitoring its every movement.

I would wonder, given the straight lines and hard edges, if the F-117 had some influence on the design of this thing (probably not, though).

Yeah that's true, without Fly-by-wire Nighthawk would never have flown successfully.

And maybe the F-117 did inspire it, who knows.

But... What I do know is, the Mantis probably wouldn't have performed its role well. Oh well, it's sci-fi, you can do anything in sci-fi when you think about it.
